We have contacted professors of iATSc and found the recent situation of coronavirus infection in Asian cities serious. Osaka University basically requested any events involving foreigners, including academic conferences, to refrain from holding in the school. In Japan people feel tension in the strained atmosphere too, and we suppose other Asian countries share the same air. Though we would like to continue our four university’s conference, the restriction on the oversea travel will disturb us to go beyond national boarders freely, even if it may be relatively relaxed in the fall. So we discussed with core contact professors about the situation and found it inevitable to cancel the real conference in Osaka University. This is a great disappointment for us all and we are very sorry to cause inconveniences for you who have planned to attend the 8th iATS conference in Osaka.  Therefore, we discussed a possibility of an Online meeting and came to the conclusion that we should keep communication and discussion on Asian Theatre Studies even in digital space. Thus, we will hold a Online Conference of iATS conference next November, 2020. We will circulate the Call for Paper announcement after decision of the details of the On Line setting.
